Somewhere Else is a proposed educational model currently being explored for Lewis County and surrounding communities. The vision is to create a place where students can complete high school while participating in hands-on career pathways, community-based learning, and access to support services that help them succeed in school and life..
-
No. The concept is designed to be a public school, but different from a traditional high school. Learning would combine academics, career pathways, real-world projects, work-based experiences, and community partnerships to help students connect their education to their future goals.
-
The vision focuses on students who may not be finding success in traditional educational settings, including those who are credit deficient, disengaged, parenting, justice-involved, or seeking a more hands-on learning experience. The goal is to create additional options, not replace existing schools.
-
No. The project is currently in the exploratory and information-gathering stage. Community feedback, partnership discussions, feasibility research, and planning work are all taking place before any decisions about implementation are made.
-
No site has been selected. Current discussions are focused on a location in the Hwy 508 / I-5 corridor area to provide access for students and families throughout the region.
-
Potential pathways include Agriculture, Animal Science, Construction Trades, Mechanical Trades, Culinary Arts, Entrepreneurship, Visual Design, Artisan Trades, Forestry & Natural Resources, and Family & Community Services. Final programs would depend on community interest, workforce needs, available funding, and partnerships.
-
The concept is being explored through a combination of public education funding, career and technical education funding, grants, partnerships, and other resources available to innovative educational programs. One purpose of the current planning process is to identify sustainable funding models

Item Community feedback is one of the most important parts of this process. If you're a parent, student, educator, business owner, community organization, or simply someone interested in the future of education in our region, we'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, questions, and concerns as the concept continues to develop.
